About this species

Behavior
Diurnal and sun-loving, most active during the warmer, sunnier hours of the morning and late afternoon. Several Western Ghats species undertake spectacular mass migrations after the monsoon, moving in their thousands along fixed forest corridors.
Diet
Adults feed on flower nectar, tree sap, rotting fruit, and mineral-rich mud (puddling, most often seen in males); caterpillars are specialist feeders, often restricted to a single host plant genus.

When and Where to Photograph Butterflies
The weeks just after the monsoon retreats (September–November) are peak season across most of India, when host plants flush new growth and migratory swarms move through the Western Ghats. Look for "puddling" congregations on damp sand or mud near streams — one of the easiest ways to get close, static subjects.
Plan field days around Jan–Dec: light is often strongest at dawn and dusk, when many mammals and birds are most active. Work with a naturalist who knows local movement patterns — they will position you ethically while improving your odds of a encounter in key reserves across India.
