About this species

The Assam Macaque is a robust, ground-tolerant macaque found across the Himalayan foothills and Northeast India. Often seen foraging on forest floors and rocky hillsides, groups of 10–50 individuals move with deliberate purpose. Kaziranga's fringing forests and Namdapha provide reliable sightings.
