About this location
Wular is the largest freshwater lake in India, a vast Himalayan floodplain lake on the Jhelum that has shrunk dramatically from encroachment and siltation but still hosts huge numbers of wintering waterfowl. Its scale alone — even reduced — makes it one of the most important wetlands in the western Himalaya.
