About this location
The tiger reserve component of the Valmiki protected area, covering the terai-arc landscape on the Nepal border. Part of a critical transboundary wildlife corridor with Chitwan National Park in Nepal, this is an important but underexplored destination for big cat photography.

Safari Zones
Valmiki's jungle safaris run from a handful of entry zones spread across the reserve. Valmikinagar in the north-west (near the Gandak barrage) is the most visited, while Manguraha in the east is known for open grassland. Safaris are booked through the Bihar forest department's eco-tourism counters.

Valmiki Nagar Road is the nearest railway station, about 10 km away, for the western side, or Narkatiaganj for Manguraha. Taxis and autos cover the last stretch.
By Road
Valmikinagar is about 110 km from Gorakhpur via Kushinagar and ~290 km from Patna via Bettiah. The eastern Manguraha zone is reached from Narkatiaganj. Stays at the forest-department eco-huts should be booked in advance.
