- Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh (~200–260 km depending on route, seasonal road access)

- None nearby — Chandigarh or Shimla railheads are the practical rail entry points before a long road transfer
By Air
There is no airport in Spiti itself. Flying into Leh (seasonal, weather-dependent) or into Delhi/Chandigarh and continuing overland are the two realistic options.
By Rail
No railway reaches Spiti. The nearest usable stations are Chandigarh or Shimla, from where the journey continues entirely by road over mountain passes.
By Road
Spiti is reached via Shimla–Kinnaur (Rampur, Reckong Peo, Nako) on one side, or via Manali over Kunzum Pass on the other — the Manali route is only open in summer/monsoon. Either way it is a multi-day drive; this is not a single-day trip from any major city.

Photography tips for Spiti Valley
Winter snow leopard expeditions are done on foot with local trackers and spotting scopes, scanning opposite valley walls at dawn. These are multi-day trips with village homestays, not single-day drives — patience over several days is the norm.
Conservation: Community-run conservation programs, including homestay networks, give local herders a direct stake in protecting snow leopards rather than retaliating for livestock losses.
