About this location
A national park in the Hoshangabad district protecting the Satpura plateau's rugged mixed forest. Satpura is exceptional for walking safaris — one of very few Indian parks to offer foot-based wildlife encounters — and is outstanding for both mammal and bird photography in a pristine setting.

Safari Zones
Satpura is unusual in allowing walking safaris, canoeing and night stays as well as jeep drives. Madhai is the flagship core zone, entered by boat across the Denwa river; Churna, deeper inside, is known for overnight stays. Pachmarhi is the hill-plateau zone around the hill station, and Parsapani and Jamani Dev are buffer zones.

Sohagpur is the nearest railway station, about 20 km away, for Madhai; Pipariya (~50 km) for Pachmarhi, and Itarsi Junction for more trains. Taxis and autos cover the last stretch.
By Road
Madhai, the main safari base, is about 20 km from Sohagpur and ~200 km (~4 hours) from Bhopal. Pachmarhi is ~55 km from Pipariya. Safaris at Madhai start with a boat across the Denwa river.
