A riverine floodplain sanctuary on the south bank of the Brahmaputra, Laokhowa is critical habitat for Indian one-horned rhinoceros and wild water buffalo. Tall elephant-grass swamps and riverine forest similar to Kaziranga make this an exciting and less-visited alternative.
