About this location
Formed by a meteorite impact roughly 50,000 years ago, Lonar is one of the world's few crater lakes in basalt rock — a geological curiosity as much as a wildlife site, though its saline waters have recently begun drawing occasional flamingo flocks alongside resident waterbirds.
