About this species

Once the world's most numerous large raptor, the White-Rumped Vulture collapsed catastrophically in the 1990s due to diclofenac poisoning. It is now critically endangered. Conservation breeding centres at Pinjore and Rani have stabilised the population. Sightings at vulture restaurants in Rajasthan and roost sites in Pench remain thrilling.
