About this location
The last refuge of the Asiatic lion on Earth — one of the world's most important wildlife destinations. Gir's dry deciduous forest and savanna landscape offer excellent lion pride photography. Leopards, striped hyenas, and jungle cats are also regularly seen.

Safari Zones
All Gir safaris are booked as e-permits on the Gujarat forest department's official portal, which opens about three months ahead. The main experience is the Gir Jungle Trail from Sasan, where each jeep is randomly allotted one of 13 rotating routes. Devalia and Ambardi are fenced interpretation zones with shorter circuits and more predictable lion sightings — good backups when Jungle Trail permits sell out.

Sasan Gir, the main safari base, is about 60 km from Junagadh, 45 km from Somnath and ~360 km from Ahmedabad. Devalia is 12 km from Sasan; Ambardi is near Dhari on the park's eastern side.
